How would you like to have a backyard that looked out on this?….5 – 10 minutes away from a large shopping centre!

Today I visited some good friends of mine who are rebuilding their house. Today was the first day for the builder to arrive – and he did!!

While the have the builders in, they are taking advantage of the expected New Zealand Summer and are semi-camping on the property, with a large tent and  portable room. That way they are able to make decisions immediately when necessary in the renovation process.

P1020813You can see from the photo below that they are not far away from the house which has been totally re-designed and will take three months to complete – if they are lucky!!

We arranged that I would take lunch over with me to their place – in the outskirts of Henderson (a suburb of Auckland) and we would have lunch by their new temporary living quarters.

P1020815I took over a loaf of Ciabatta bread, Tabouleh, and a salad of Cos Lettuce and Spinach leaves as a bed and some Balsamic dressing. They provided some cheese and a bottle of bubbly and we had a celebratory picnic under the trees, while the builders started to pull up the floor in the house….

All in all it was a most satisfactory lunch. They will turn this place into a real "estate" over the next few years. It has a real ambience about it and as it is only ten minutes away from a main centre, they have the convenience that they need for shopping and other needs.

Look at this view from the house….

It will be a great place in which to live once they have finished the house – hopefully April…..  :):)

an idyllic retreat….
